Where the heck have I been?

Where the heck have I been?

Where the heck have I been?

I have been rather silent lately (I think the last blog post was back in September?) but I swear I have a good excuse. On top of launching the Winter Menu, I've been opening a wine shop!

Wine & Such opened on November 5th in Lewisham London. I was lucky enough to be able to take over the front retail area of the shop I operate Cocktails By Mail out of, and open the wine shop of my dreams.

Part wine shop, part maker's space, I promise Wine & Such is nothing like your typical retail wine shop. The building is an old chemist, lovingly restored by the owner Mary. The space is more than just retail and I think that's what makes it so special. Sharing the other areas of the shop, Mary creates her beautiful textile pieces, and Cat, of Roxtown Design, creates her bespoke leather work.  Sharing the space with them makes for a much more lively and collective feeling in Wine & Such.

Wine & Such focuses on natural wine, traditional ciders, & craft vermouth along with vintage homeware pieces and small producer foods. There are wines, cider, and vermouth on-tap allowing you to refill with your own bottle, helping to save approximately .5kg of carbon for every bottle reused.

There was a lot of work to do and I am proud to say most of it was done by myself along with my husband, Freddy. We welded and built the shelves for the wine. Furniture was refinished, barrels cleaned, and lots of tasting and sourcing wine (that was definitely the best bit).

I am so happy with how Wine & Such has turned out, so if you are in the area please do stop in and say hi!

More Cocktails By Mail updates soon, but for now I am enjoying downtime after all the graft, and perhaps a glass of wine as well.

Cheers!
