Whisky & apple is classic. Even though the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it, we couldn't help but bring a little bit more to the party.
The base is Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt whisky. Known as the whisky made for mixing, it's a fun easy drinking malt with tons of honeyed apple notes.
Drambuie adds even more honey (and more whisky) along with spices and herbs.
Giffard Menthe-Pastille, created in 1885, brings bright fresh mint. This stuff is good, like really good. It's a skiing-in-the-Alps-with-fresh-snow kind of mint. Only a touch goes in to lift the whole drink, so don't worry about the mouthwash kind of taste.
Worcester Permain Apple Juice from Perry's Court, rounds out the whole party and makes sure everyone gets along. It's an old English apple variety that's from the 1870s, and apparently can taste like strawberries?! You be the judge on that one.
Story: When we had our leaving New York party a few years ago, this drink was on the menu. My 80 year old grandpop couldn't stop drinking them..."Steph, get me another Monkey!" was the call of the night.
It's a crowd pleaser for sure.
